WILD Blueberries! Superfood!

If you've never tried them, now is the time! They are in the freezer section so very convenient while sheltering in place. And they are super nutritious and delicious! On cereal, with yogurt, as frozen fruit in smoothies, in muffins, etc. Anything you would add blueberries to works for these.

They are smaller than regular blueberries, more flavorful, and contain a much higher level of flavonoids. What are flavonoids? Not vitamins or minerals, so you can't be deficient, but eating them is very healthful!

Research has shown a relationship between flavonoids and the aging process. We have all heard the term antioxidants as a good thing, and that is what flavonoids are, antioxidants. Flavonoids are the pigments that give fruits and vegetables their color. So the darker the fruits and veggies, the more flavonoids. And Wild Blueberries are packed!

Take a look at this graph comparing fruits and vegetables on levels of phytochemicals, flavonoids being one of them.

Research suggests that flavonoids help slow the aging process and reduce the risk of many diseases, like cancer, strokes, and obesity. These antioxidants neutralize or inactivate substances, free radicals, that attack the body's cells every day.

There are no "definitive" research conclusions (difficult to do randomized controlled trials with food intake) but strong evidence points to links between flavonoids and reduced risk of chronic conditions
